D&D Hoard of the Dragon Queen - The Finale! Also: getting ready for not being the DM

I have not been quiet about my excitement for Hoard of the Dragon Queen coming to a close. There are many reasons for that.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - The Final Session! No? We have one more session? Damn it!

Last night was intended to be the last session of the Hoard of the Dragon Queen. We were then due to start my wife's game next week - her first time DM-ing. Unfortunately, we had a couple of complex and overwhelming encounters, so we didn't get through everything. But that's OK! I had fun DM-ing for the first time in far too long.

D&D Hoard of the Dragon Queen - The end of the Hunting Lodge

Usually this is where I recap my players' exploits and adventures from our most recent session. Something I learned this week is no one in my party is keeping track of what they are accomplishing, or what their tasks are.

D&D Hoard of the Dragon Queen - To the Hunting Lodge

When last we spoke, our heroes had just convinced an elf supremacist - also a Wearer of Purple for the Cult of the Dragon - to pack up his things and leave Castle Naerytar with all cultists left. They then spent the night in the observation tower to keep an eye on things by use of the Farseer of Illusk.

D&D Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Castle Naerytar Part II

When we last left our heroes, they had just defeated a Bullywug Shaman named Spattergoo and looted his secret stash just past his elaborate and confusing shrine. They weren't sure where to look for Borngray now that Rezmir was away), so they chose to check out the wet and rocky basement a bit more. Down there, they found a dark room which gave off the impression of being gigantic. Erky tossed a rock which had light cast on it into the room to reveal a Giant Frog sitting on a rocky island in the center of a very large underground lake. The frog was just sitting there, staring at them eerily. A path around the lake was also revealed, which they decided to take since the water seemed to grow very deep very quickly.

D&D Castle Naerytar, Part I

Erky (the replacement for Ferald, who was a Gnome Wizard) cast Leomund’s Tiny Hut for the party to spend the night in. Because of the spell, they didn’t feel the need to set a guard. They awoke to both Jacen and Jamna missing. There was a note where Jacen had been sleeping which read:

She was gone when I awoke. During the night, I received a Sending, and I was needed immediately. Sorry guys, but I’ll see you in the future. Good luck!”

D&D In case you missed it . . . Hoard of the Dragon Queen thus far

In Case You Missed It – Horde of the Dragon Queen so far . . .

The Sword Coast of Faerun

The group (Raiann, Jacen, Corrin, and Ferald) was heading to Greenest to meet with a merchant to travel as bodyguards. When they neared Greenest, they discovered the small town in flames and being attacked by a Blue Dragon. They rushed to town to assist in what way they could. They were able to save a family from a group of kobolds and escort them to the keep, which was acting as a safehouse for those able to escape the attack. It was clear they were the most formidable defense this town now had and it was up to them to help the town guard survive through the night.
